Why McDonagh
Family business since 1898:
There is always something special about a family business. It is usually more accessible and friendly, with the feeling that you can speak to the right person and get good attention. At McDonagh we are always happy to answer your questions and give advice, whether it is a restoration project or a new piece to match your existing furniture. Call us for free quotations and advice.
Built on being helpful and honest:
When a business has been around for over 110 years you can be sure that it has got a lot of things right. We ask the right questions and have the right answers to solve your furniture problems. If not we’ll tell you and point you in the right direction with an honest answer.
Wide knowledge and skills:
Our restoration work involves a lot of different techniques. An antique picture frame with a broken section may need a new piece of timber set in and re-carved. A table might require veneer repair or replacement of inlays. All sorts of fretwork and turnings can be made or repaired. Often restoration also involves the basic dirty work of stripping off old polish and then re-finishing, either traditional French polishing or modern spray finishing. We may also have to replace metal work such as hinges, castors or other fittings. For new furniture we work with a wide range of materials from solid timber to plywood or mdf to get a well built, quality product. Whatever the job you can be sure that we have the experience to assess it properly and take the right approach.
Space to accommodate large projects:
With around 60,000 square feet of space we have a quite unique ability to handle larger projects such as church seat restoration. The entire job can be transported to our factory in one shipment and returned in restored condition when required. Clients have found this a great benefit which saves time, handling costs and damages to precious fixtures.
Free quotations:
A free quotation will be supplied upon receipt of an enquiry for any of our services. It is very useful if a photograph or drawing can be supplied via email with your enquiry. For larger and more complicated projects we will make an appointment to carry out an inspection at your premises prior to providing a quote.
Collection service:
When required we can collect and re-deliver furniture for a pre-agreed price. We will set out the details of this service with every free quote.
Good value:
Our extensive knowledge and experience allows us to offer an excellent value for money service. Some jobs can be completed quickly and effectively and our charge will reflect this. However, should a project need more time and materials to produce the required quality solution that will stand the test of time then this will be detailed and explained in our free quote.
Any size of project:
We are happy to provide a free quote for any job or project, large or small. We can restore anything from a small furniture heirloom to church pews. We can make a wide variety of bespoke furniture, from one-off cabinets and tables to shelving and units for commercial premises.
